What happens when humanity trades God's Spirit for a counterfeit? In Day 2 of our Ascension to Pentecost series, the story darkens. The co-rulers God appointed to spread his kingdom instead drag the world back into chaos — and a rival kingdom takes shape. In Genesis 6, rebellious spiritual powers descend to earth, filling humanity with violence instead of God's life. In Genesis 11, that rebellion reaches its peak at the Tower of Babel — a rival ascension, a counterfeit throne, a kingdom built in defiance of God's rule. But God intervenes. Again and again, in mercy, he pushes back against the powers that are destroying his image bearers. The pattern is the same as Day 1 — but now we see what's at stake. Humanity was made to be filled with God's Spirit and rule alongside him. The rival powers want to fill us instead. And we can't free ourselves. That's why the disciples were waiting.
