Be Fruitful & Multiply: Why You Should Have as Many Children as God Allows. Genesis 1:28 [Sermon].
Matthew Everhard
teaching
May 10, 2026
In this expository sermon from Genesis 1:28–31, we examine one of the very first commands ever given to humanity: “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.”
Why does modern culture increasingly view children as burdens instead of blessings? Has the church been influenced by fear, materialism, and anti-human philosophies? What does the Bible actually teach about motherhood, fertility, family, and raising covenant children?
In this expositional sermon, we discuss:
• The blessing of children in Scripture
• God’s command to fill the earth
• Why creation was made abundant, not scarce
• The modern fear of overpopulation and depopulation
• Whether Christians should hesitate to bring children into a fallen world
• The selfishness of radical individualism
• Trusting God’s provision for families
• Psalm 127 and children as arrows in the hand of a warrior
• Raising children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord
This message is both theological and deeply practical for Christians navigating modern cultural pressures surrounding family, marriage, children, and discipleship.
