Here is a loose script i used for this video including the citations:
-WMC 6.021- says some are foreordained to death
C of 1967 says “God’s love embraces all people everywhere”
Calvin would be disgusted by this idea as Instituted Book 3, 1-3 says God loves no man who is apart from Christ. Institutes Chapter Book 3 Chapter 21 says God’s free love is shown in those he chooses meaning his love is not shown in those he doesnt choose.
-WCF 25.6 says the Pope is the antichrist while the PCUSA removed this clause in their book of confessions. RZ already discussed this but his analysis is wrong. He claims that the title of antichrist wasn't condemned but rather just moved away from- Respected Reformed theologian John Murray states that the removal of this clause was “distinctly in the path of retrogression rather than of progress … [and] symbolic of a standpoint that would undermine the very foundations of the Reformed Faith.” Shall We Include the Revision of 1903 in Our Creed?”,
-Master and servants are explicitly condoned in the WCF: “It is the duty of all men, according to their places, to perform that which they owe to others … as well servants to their masters.” while Book of Confessions, 1967, 9.32 says “In a world of violent conflict, we are called to be servants of God’s peace, to resist oppression, to seek justice, and to witness to the dignity of every person.”
-“In sovereign love God created the world good and makes everyone equally in God’s image — male and female, of every race and people, to live as one community.” Brief Statement of Faith (1983) while WCF 3.3 says “By the decree of God, for the manifestation of his glory, some men and angels are predestinated unto everlasting life, and others foreordained to everlasting death. **Those of mankind that are predestinated unto life, God, before the foundation of the world, according to his eternal and immutable purpose, and the secret counsel and good pleasure of his will, hath chosen, in Christ, unto everlasting glory, out of his mere free grace and love, without any foresight of faith or good works; and all the rest of mankind, being left to fall into sin and to be justly condemned for their own sins, to the praise of his glorious justice.”. Calvins institutes claim “By predestination we mean the eternal decree of God, by which he determined with himself whatever he wished to happen with regard to every man. All are not created on equal terms, but some are preordained to eternal life, others to eternal damnation.”
Who is the Bible the Word of? BOC 6.004 says it is the Word of God-“The authority of the Holy Scripture, for which it ought to be believed and obeyed, dependeth not upon the testimony of any man or church, but wholly upon God (who is truth itself), the author thereof; and therefore it is to be received, because it is the Word of God.” (Book of Confessions 6.004) while the BOC 9.29 calls it the words of men: “The Scriptures... are nevertheless the words of men, conditioned by the language, thought forms, and literary fashions of the times in which they were written.”
(Book of Confessions 9.29)
First 4 Ecumenical Councils
WCF 6.163 — “The grace which is exhibited in or by the sacraments rightly used is not conferred by any power in them” Even though Ephesus affirms Cyril’s letter that says “For as His holy body, giving life to those who partake of it, was united to the Word, so we are united to Him through the mystical blessings, receiving life in our bodies also.”
(Session I, Cyril’s Second Letter to Nestorius) He also writes that “The clergy, rightly appointed by the bishops, administer the mysteries and give the faithful the gifts of grace through Christ.”
Is ordination a sacrament?
“There be only two sacraments ordained by Christ our Lord in the Gospel”
— Westminster Confession of Faith 27.4, Book of Confessions, 6.161
A sacrament is defined by the WCF as “holy signs and seals of the covenant of grace, immediately instituted by God, to represent Christ and His benefits, and to confirm our interest in Him: as also, to put a visible difference between those that belong unto the Church and the rest of the world; and solemnly to engage them to the service of God in Christ, according to His Word.”---Westminster Confession of Faith 27.1
Grace:
“If any cleric ordained by simony shall be found to have obtained this grace for money, he shall be deposed, both he who was ordained and he who ordained him.”
Instituted by God:
“Following the holy Fathers, we all with one voice teach… the one and the same Son, our Lord Jesus Christ… through whom the pastors of the Church have received the priestly office and authority to feed the flock of Christ.”
— Chalcedon, Definition of Faith (Session 5)
Representation of Christ:
“The most holy Synod decreed that… Christ being the head of us all, and He Himself presiding with us in this assembly.”
— Ephesus, Session 1, Acta Concilii
